GLORIFY HIM ... GROW IN HIM ... GO WITH HIS GOSPEL

10th Sunday after Pentecost
August 1, 2021

A place to call home: St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.
We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness through Jesus.

Worship Focus:
Would you consider yourself to be a generous person (not just financially)? Do
words of kindess and encouragement flow ceaselessly out of your mouth even when such are not
directed your way? What is to prompt our generosity is not how others treat us but keeping in mind
what God gives to us … and without ceasing. His love is generous. In light of His generous love, He
calls and equips us to be generous … not just with words, but also with actions. God help us be the
generous people He wants us to be.

Worship Focus:
How health conscience are you? Do you carefully watch what you eat, that is, put into your body? Do you exercise
with the goal of good health? Does your soul get the same treatment, or even better than what your body gets?
Neglect of the body, and of our soul, comes with consequences as we reap what we sow. Eventually the body will
wear out regardless, yet we are to be good managers of our physical health; all the more reason to make sure we
get and remain spiritually healthy. We do this by treasuring, that is, being faithful withthe One Thing Needful.
God be praised for this opportunity before us today.

Worship Focus: Have you longed for a glass of milk only to start drinking it and it tasted sour? Sour milk has its purposes,
though not easy to drink. At times the Word of God may seem sour to us and to people we know; it has its purposes for
coming across that way. At the same time the Word of God has sweet words to say to us. God help us appreciate the ‘sour’ and
the ‘sweet’ of His Word, His Word is TRUTH, the truth we need. Blessings be evident with the drinking up of that truth today.

What is important to you, and why? Do you view and or treat what is important to you differently from what is not?
If someone tried to take away what is important to you, what would you do? Is the Word of God important to you?
If you say it is, how are you backing that up with action? God encourages us to hold on to His Word, and He provides the
why we want to do this. Blessings on your reflections of His Word.

Worship Focus:
Who do you love? Why do you love them? Is it a conditional love? How long will
this love last? Who loves you? God does! His love for you is not conditional, and it lasts beyond this
life. Because God is love, and because He loves us, we are able to love not only Him but also others
even when they are not loveable (that does not mean we excuse the bad behavior). Today we get
another glimpse of God’s love, what that means for us as well ashow to put it into practice ... as He
does. Bask in His love for you!

Worship Focus:
If there is a drought, what are the impacts on us … on plants, etc? As we know a
drought is not a good thing, and then add multiple years of drought; so a spiritual drought is not
good for us, in fact it too can be deadly. Thankfully God has given us a way to avoid such a drought.
But do we take advantage of it for maximum growth? God keep us connected to His Word so we
can avoid a drought in our heart. Let us glorify Him once again today, and grow up in Him; and then
let us go with His life-giving/sustaining Word.

Worship Focus:
How would you describe the times we are living in? Are they better or worse or the same as in the days of those who lived
before us? Sin itself, how it shows itself, has not changed all that much; neither has God’s expectations of people.
Today we have anotherreminder of how God expects us togo about life. His ways are for our good.
His ways include the words which come out of our mouth. Let us reflect on this as we get to the reason why we are here today,
to worship Him.

God loves you! His love is not determined by your feelings. One of the ways He
has shown His love for us is by giving us His Law, summed up in the 10 Commandments. The
simplest summary of His Law is ‘love.’ The Commandments, for example, are intened to protect us
and to protect others physically, emotionally, and especially spiritually. Keep this in mind as today we
look at what God expects of us because of His love for us. God, Triune God, be praised!

The Father created us and planned our salvation. The Son became one with us and won our
salvation. The Holy Spirit brings that good news of salvation to our hearts. Yet there are not three gods who
do all of this but one God. How is it possible that we could believe all of this? Marvel today at the work of the
Trinity, not only in what all three persons have done to give us eternal life but that God would also work the
faith in our hearts to believe it.
