Second Sunday in Advent December 10, 2017

December 10, 2017

Worship Focus:  The church season of Advent draws our attention to the two comings of Jesus. Without the first we would not be able to be ready for the second. Since Jesus has already come once we need to be ready for Him to come again. Our Scripture Readings for today do just that, prepare us through the Word of God to be ready whenever He comes. So let us focus not on when that will take place but rather on being prepared at all times, giving evidence that we are ready.

First Sunday of Advent December 3, 2017

December 3, 2017

Worship Focus: As we prepare for the Savior’s advent, he points us in today’s Gospel to John, the voice from the desert urging us to prepare the way of the Lord. Isaiah tells us that when the Messiah comes the desert will bloom and “the burning sand will become a pool, the thirsty ground bubbling springs.”  God’s forgiveness brings life to hearts parched by sin and water to the desert of our self-righteousness. In the Second Lesson the Apostle James counsels patience as we wait for our Savior to come.

Christ the King

Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s.  We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.  We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus:  What would you say our society has lost for one another, themselves, and for those in authority? Why do you think this is the case? Can it be reversed? If so, what will it take and what is your role to be? We know a day of reckoning is coming … How does the ‘then what’ impact ‘the now what’? Chew on these questions and your answers as God’s Word for today gives us the perspective we need.

Third Sunday of End Time
November 19, 2017

Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray that your soul will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Worship Focus:  Lord, keep us watchful for our triumph! Today the church hears strains of the distant triumph song and affirms, “Blessed are they who are called to the marriage feast of the Lamb.” Jesus wants us to be the waiting Church—the Church that watches for her Savior and cries, “Come, Lord Jesus!” As we journey through these latter days, however, our vigilance slips, and our hearts grow drowsy because the bridegroom seems to be taking so long. So while we wait, the Church prays, “Keep us ever watchful for the coming of your Son that we may sit with him and all your holy ones at the marriage feast in heaven.”

Children Sing - First Sunday of End Times - Last Judgment

Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s. We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today. We pray that your soul will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through his Son, Jesus Christ.
Worship Focus:  What is it that people are said not able to escape? Death and Taxes. People try to avoid both and while able to avoid the latter (for a time perhaps), they will not be able to avoid the former (unless Jesus returns first). With death comes judgment, accountability time. Who likes to be held accountable? Thankfully when asked to give an accounting of our life we can point to Jesus. He gives us what we cannot get on our own. Let us live, and die, like we have what He gives … because we do. God be praised!Worship Focus: Today we reflect upon one of the reasons we're on this earth: to share the good news of Jesus' work with those who don't yet know him.  God wants all people to recognize him as the only true God and Savior of the world.  God wants all people to see the life and forgiveness he won for them through his Son.  And God has given the honor and privilege of sharing that message with all people to you and me.  So Christ's love compels us to share it with those around us who don't yet know it so that they can share in the blessings Jesus gives us.

Twenty-first Sunday after Pentecost October 29, 2017

October 29, 2017

Focus of Today’s Service: What do you value? Your list may be long as it might include family, friends, pets, heirlooms, and more. Is ‘freedom’ on your radar? In the U.S. we know what freedom is and the doors it can open; we have also come to experience what happens when freedoms slip away. There is one freedom for sure that keeps on giving even when other freedoms may be slipping away, and that is the freedom we have in and through Christ Jesus. Even before ‘the Reformation’ 500 years ago, this was a valued freedom. May we continue to value it…Today’s worship focus helps us do just that. Enjoy your worship!cus of Today’s Service: Today's service leads us to ponder the question: Am I bearing fruit for my Lord?  The Lord prepares good works for us to do, but are we doing them?  As he confronts our sinful habits and tendencies in today's readings, we can see that we have a loving God who takes great care of us and provides all we need to thrive spiritually in this world.  Because of this, we want to honor him by living fruitful lives of faith for him not only out of thanks to him but also so others might come to know his caring ways.
