Lent Mid-Week 3
Wednesday, February 28, 2018, 7:00 p.m.
Sermon Text ... Hebrews 4:14-16
Hebrews 4:14 New International Version (NIV)
Jesus the Great High Priest
14 Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has ascended into heaven,[a]
Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.
15 For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses,
but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are—yet he did not sin.
16 Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive
mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.

Second Sunday in Lent February 25, 2018

February 25, 2018
Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s.  We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.  We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus:During Lent we focus a lot on Jesus' suffering on the cross, and rightfully so. However, sometimes we forget that we've been called to suffer, too, in a sense, not for sins but for the gospel's sake. This world tends to push back against Christ, his Word, and his people. Therefore today as we focus on Christ's gracious suffering for our sake we ready ourselves to face suffering for his sake.

First Sunday in Lent February 18, 2018

February 18, 2018

Worship Focus: If someone told you to fall backwards and that they would catch you, would you trust them to do so? Trust is based on multiple factors. Trust in God does not come from us. He has worked the trust we need in Him. He continues to nurture this trust through life events. This kind of trust is highlighted in our Scripture Readings for today. God continue to nurture such trust in your heart.

Ash Wednesday

February 14, 2018

Ash Wednesday
Wednesday, February 14, 2018, 7:00 p.m.
The Season of Lent
Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of the Lent, the Christian's 40-day spiritual journey to
Jesus' cross and tomb to await the proclamation of Easter. The name Lent comes from the
Anglo-Saxon word lengten, which means "spring"-- the time of the year when the days
noticeably lengthen. The season of Lent finds its roots in the ancient Church's
pre-Easter fast and intensified instruction for converts to Christianity who were baptized
at the Easter Eve vigil. In the fourth century, this pre-Easter time of preparation was
observed by all Christians, not just new converts anticipating their baptism. The season
eventually began on the Wednesday that occured six and a half weeks before Easter. This
resulted in a Laten season of 40 days, a number that reflected Jesus' 40 days of fasting and
temptation at the start of his ministry (Matthew 4:1-11). Sundays are technically excluded
from the 40-day Lenten season. since each Sunday is considered a "little Easter" celebration.

Children Sing - The Transfiguration of Our Lord

February 11, 2018
The Transfiguration of Our Lord
February 11, 2018

Welcome to St. Mark’s Lutheran Church & School!
In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we welcome you to St. Mark’s.  We especially welcome our guests who have joined us today.  We pray you will be strengthened by the good news about God’s grace, love, and forgiveness to us through Jesus.
Worship Focus: As we close out the season of Epiphany we see our Lord shine his light big and bright one more time before the trials of Lent ahead. Seeing his true glory must have brought awe and comfort to the disciples as Jesus faced the difficult times to come. We also daily take heart in the fact that our Savior is true God and Lord and that he has given his glory for us to shine.
